Loch and River Angling in Angus. Fly Fishing, Coarse Fishing.

Angus offers challenging and satisfying angling on rivers and lochs, and on the sea and shore. Two of its major assets are the Rivers North and South Esk, which run from their rising in the hills through the county to the sea, and provide opportunities for anglers of most abilities, from spring to autumn.

From its source in the Grampian Mountains, the South Esk runs some forty-nine miles through Glen Doll and Clova onwards, wending its way through the beautiful scenery of the Vale of Strathmore, through Brechin, to Montrose Basin and the sea. Fish the South Esk for sea trout in the summer. In the right weather, the River's salmon runs are good in the spring and excellent in the autumn.

Kingennie Fishings is home to some of Scotland's most famous trout and coarse fishing waters and provides excellent fishing for experts and beginners alike. Bait and fly-fishing is available on the four well-stocked pools. The coarse pond contains a variety of species including common carp, mirror carp, roach, rudd and bream.

 

Loch Fishing at Piperdam. Fly Fishing is available in the estates 40 acre pool for brown and rainbow trout by boat or from the bank. There is a pool for children and a restaurant with modern facilities on site. The brown trout fishing season runs from March 15th - Oct 6th whilst the fishery is open all year round for rainbow trout fishing.

These are only a few of the outstanding fly and coarse fishing venues available in the immediate area of Angus. There are many more lochs and rivers where anglers can thrash the water to their hearts content and will provide wide and varied angling.

Inchcape Marine Services run daily fishing trips during the season from May to October. The vessels for the trips are the Girl Katherine 11 which has a capacity for 64 passengers and the Margaret Anne which can carry 10 passengers.  Both these vessels are fully certified by the Department of Industry. Rod and bait hire is available.
